We will know be asking folks to pay up front and utilize the pick up locations with our small business partners in the community! Thank you Bodhi Cafe and Yoga Honolulu!
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) traditionally means customers pay farmers directly for an entire season of produce in one lump sum. This process allows farmers to use the up front payment for supplies and farm investments, and guarantees fresh produce for customers on a weekly or biweekly basis. This system allows 100% of your payment to go straight to the farmer. Designated pick up dates and times at convenient locations make it easy for the farmer to drop off produce in just a couple spots after harvesting, washing, processing, packing, and delivering all in one day. Customers receive fresh produce within hours of it being harvested on the farm. ~90% of food in Hawaii is imported, meaning produce bought in the grocery store is likely to have traveled multiple days to get onto the shelves here. Some of the most important nutrients in vegetables begin depleting within 24 hours of harvesting. Additional processing, preserving, and travel can counter the benefits we expect from consuming vegetables. A CSA subscription supports a local farm and connects customers to the freshest and most nutritious produce available.
Osaka Purple Mustard:
The large rounded purple leaves of this Japanese mustard are beautiful, pungent and sharp. Try placing a filet of steamed fish on top of a bed of these leaves as a substitute for wasabi. It can also be used as a companion plant to repel aphids.- Seedsofchange.com
Green Wave Mustard:
Spicy and hot when fresh, the vibrant green, deeply frilled leaves of this mustard mellow when cooked. The upright plants do not bolt to seed in the heat as quickly as most others. Harvest the baby leaves for salad and use the mature leaves for cooking.- Seedsofchange.com
